Home Birding tours

tom_2007Hello,

It started in 1993 when for a first time I met "western" birders and using my "polenglish" managed to guide them in top birding Polish areas. Since then every year I'm organizing tailor-made trips for groups and even single birdwatchers visiting the area of NE Poland - Biebrza, Bialowieza, but also other national parks and reserves. Most often I meet British, German, Dutch, Scandinavian or Swiss birders but I was lucky to meet such persons as Paul Doherty, Paul van Galeen or Hanne&Jens Eriksen. I usually prepare weekly itineraries or short weekend programmes but also help planning the trip for self-organized birders. Depending on target species I may suggest certain period of the year.

One of the most popular destination - Bialowieska Forest - famous for its Woodpeckers but not only ... Here English birders waiting for White-Backed Woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos) at so called "Dead Forest".

ACCOMODATION

Several lodges / pensions / hotels are available in most popular birding places around Biebrza and Bialowieza. Some of them are recently popular "agro-pensions" located in villages close to the birding locations. High standard hotels also available.

CAR RENTAL

Rather difficult in the areas of Bialowieza and Biebrza but still possible. If this option is better for you I may help. In other case Warsaw offers several possibilities with well-known Avis or Hertz

(With birdwatchers near Burzyn/Biebrza in April 2005)

Most of the groups visit Biebrza Marshes, Bialowieza Forest, Bialystok ponds and other areas such as Siemianowka Reservoir.

WEATHER ..

birding_bza2008Winter may last till late March (snow) but April is usually much warmer. May sometimes rainy, first mosquitos coming up, usually very warm. June-August very warm but July often rainy. If you prefer spotting birds from one point then forget wellingtons, if you want to walk and see more sites/birds think about taking the boots apart of good walking shoes.
Good repellent is advisable late April-August.
