In Biebrza Valley bird migration still delayed - first
Black-headed Gull reached Goniadz, skylarks singing in the fields and Greylag
Geese walking by the reedbeds. White-tailed Eagles flying over their territories
near Kopytkowo, adn two more adults in Brzozowka Valley near Suchowola. In the
fields 4 Snow Buntings feeding at gravel road.

Wintering Water Rails (2) near Bialystok at Biala River or one
of the earliest arrivals. Nearby also 35 Redpolls and 1 Teal (recently rare
winter visitor). In Biebrza Valley just few signs of approaching spring -
group of swans and geese attacked by White-tailed Eagle, some Goldeneyes near
Wizna and Brzostowo and one more WT Eagle staying in a small forest, perhaps a
new territory?

Biebrza Valley still frozen and covered with snow. Some small open water clearings offer feeding opportunities for 3-4 Goldeneyes and 2 Whooper Swans (near Brzostowo) as well as rest for White-fronted Geese (first this year). Nice flock of 160 Greylag Geese
feeding near Chyliny and Pluty in the fields. Just by the road 2-3 Elks walking in the pine forest. |

In Białystok town large flock of 200 Fieldfares together with 20 Waxwings "clearing" rowan trees. In Ostrówek near the eastern border flock of 25 European Bisons wandering in the fields, as last year (and 2002). They come from the Knyszynska Forest
which is ca 10 km away to the west. |

One wintering Kestrel near Maliszewo, a pair of Whooper Swans near Wizna in Narew Valley. Fishing Otter on the frozen river. Six more Whooper Swans near Sulin waiting for warmer weather. In Brzostowo (Biebrza Valley) first flocks of Greylag Geese patrolling the
valley and neighourhood. |

During buzzard count at Maliszewo 37 Rough-legged Buzzards, some Fieldfares and 30 Redpolls. In Brzostowo (Biebrza Valley) 25 Whooper Swans, 120 Geese and one possible Steppe Buzzard. First sings of Spring then :) !! |

Siemianówka Reservoir, though still frozen, attracted 4-5 White-tailed Eagles, 14 Goosanders, 3 Wigeon. One hunting Great Grey Shrike at his favourite electric line. |

First Skylarks reached NE Poland (Bialystok area) where also a pair of Whooper Swans came back to their breeding territory at Dojlidy fish-ponds. One adult White-tailed Eagle also there. Passing flock of 14 Greylag Geese contribute to "firsts" of this

- 7 Common Buzzards
- 10 Rough-legged Buzzards
- 27 unidentified Buzzards

During Wintering Birds Count between Zlotoria and Tykocin some nice birds were observed: Goosanders - 11, White-tailed Eagle - 1 ad, Grey Heron - 1, some Mallards, Mute Swans as well as one Middle Spotted Woodpecker, 7 Twites (TK, Gaba, Robert Kapowicz). |
